Twisted Thinking

"My dear sisters, your Heavenly Father loves you—each of you. That love never changes. It is not influenced by your appearance, by your possessions, or by the amount of money you have in your bank account. It is not changed by your talents and abilities. It is simply there. It is there for you when you are sad or happy, discouraged or hopeful. God’s love is there for you whether or not you feel you deserve love. It is simply always there" -Thoms S. Monson
Mental health is more than just squaring your shoulders and pretending everything is okay. Keeping our thoughts and our spirits together in unity is so important for our mental health. It can be so easy for these two to un-connect themselves and to work without the other. And we start telling ourselves things are true that arent or things arent true that are. It's our spirit's job to decide what we think and what our brain starts to believe is true. There are so many different causes of mental health and no matter what they are it's so important to understand that it's normal and just like if you broke your leg you would go get help!
This week in class we went through a daily mode chart and talked about how when keeping track of our emotions like this you aren't just trying to find and come up with happy thoughts you're really looking for true thoughts. When we find ourselves in these sad depressed moods it's so easy for our brains to look at things like they aren't our heads alter the truth in ways that can hurt us. We overthink, become self-critical, and we start seeing the truth in things that aren't. When we look back over moments in life when we may have felt sad or hurt and comb through these times it's so important to look for truth and to re alter it to recognize the truths and not what our mental health has told us.
There is so much we can look at when we're trying to find truth in our life. In class this week we talked about the ABCs. The A stands for the actual event, what really happened why did it happen and what are we going to do with what happened. This leads to B, B stands for both responses or resources. What did we do when the event occurs how did we respond to this moment. The next one is C for cognitions. All of these lead to experiences. This experience is what causes our brain to think in the way it does. We all have different strengths and weaknesses within our thoughts
My biggest takeaway from this week was how important it is to seek the truth. In the world, they tell us we don't need truth and our opinions can become truth. But in the world of God, he gives us the truth, a truth that cant be changed. When we build ourselves upon this foundation we are made stronger and our foundation will not shake. My whole life I've grown up with very strong mental illness, I've never lived my life without them, because of this I've seen many doctors who have tried to help me. It had because I've always felt everyone was telling me a different thing, but the one thing that never changes was the truth from God, it didn't matter what I felt or what I was being told I always knew the truth that God loved me and I was here for a purpose and I know that's the same with everyone God puts here on the earth.
