Truth. What is it?

What is truth?

What will we give for truth? And what are we willing to put in to receive truth?

The importance of being intentional in finding the truth is something that we can never

underestimate, especially when it comes to the family. True genuine studies on the family

can be hard to come by for many reasons! There are so many different factors, opinions,

cultures and so much more that cause this, and being able to find where you stand

is so important In our world today one of the most controversial topics is the family,

what it means, what it looks like, and how we treat it.

For this reason, it is extremely important that we put in the time to find the truth

regarding our homes "In every conceivable manner, the family is a link to our past,

and a bridge to our future."- Alex Haley. In class this week we talked about the importance

of finding legitimate research on these topics and how hard this can be in our world today

but how important it truly is. The world wants us to believe there is no truth and only opinions.

We have to find truth for ourselves because we can't live dependent on just the opinions of others.

As I pondered and tried to apply this in my life it brought me back to Chicago.

During the years 2020-2021, I got the chance to live in the heart of Chicago. This is a place

filled with a plethora of opinions on the family from all over the world. Living here I saw what

it means to seek for truth as I watched the sweet families of Chicago do all they could do for

the families that they loved, I saw the deepest impact the family has on the lives of the one.

Living here I saw the importance of teaching our children the truth and teaching them how

to discern this, the world is full of so many different views and winds, we have to

be able to teach our kids truth and where to find it.

This skill is a necessity for life, and this skill starts in the home.

How do I find the truth? In class this week we talked about the scientific method, the

different ways we can discern truth, and why it is worth the time. These steps taught me

and showed how we can tell truth from not

  1. Perception. What is the perception of the opinion around us and where are they receiving

            and building their opinions from?
        2. Reason. What is the motive behind the research, what is compelling them to share what
           they’re sharing?
        3. Testimony. This is coming to know of belief of something, a testimony teaches and shows
us in raw and real ways. We can’t always rely on testimonies but we can take these thoughts
into consideration when searching for truth.
        4. Reason. Being intentional as you reason things out in your mind with what you decided
to rely on, and the sources to choose to trust.

The ability to discern truth is a lifelong skill that we must learn to master, it is much easier said

than done but the impact it has is worth the work, The world will tell us that we don't need truth

and that world is only full of opinions but God doesn't want us to live in confusion.

He has provided a way for us to find safety in the world, and we find safety through his eternal truths.
